CIKRO IS A COLLECTIVE. IT HAS NO LEADER, NO SET ROLES; IT IS SIMPLY A GATHERING OF LIKE-MINDED INDIVIDUALS OPERATING, CO-OPERATING AND CREATING UNDER ONE NAME. CIKRO INTENDS TO MAKE GAMES BUT IS FOR ANY ARTIST WHO WANTS TO WORK IN NEW FORMS OF MEDIA. SOME MEMBERS MAY MAKE MUSIC; OTHERS MAY MAKE  VISUAL ART; SOME MEMBERS MIGHT JUST YELL NEW GAME IDEAS AT PASSERS-BY ON STREET CORNERS; SOME SIMPLY PUT THEIR HEAD DOWN AND CODE. SOME MIGHT WANT TO SIT IN THE OFFICE AND DANCE SEXILY WHILE OTHERS DO THEIR THING. WE'RE LOOKING FOR ANYONE WHO'S GOT THE SAME IDEAS AS US AND WANTS TO COLLABORATE. ESPECIALLY THE SEXY DANCERS.

 

CIKRO HAS FOUR MAJOR PRIORITIES WHEN IT COMES TO MAKING GAMES.

 

1. IS IT NEW?

WE AREN'T GOING TO REINVENT ANY WHEELS, BUT WE AREN'T GOING TO MAKE GALAGA AGAIN. SOMEONE ALREADY MADE GALAGA AND IT WAS AWESOME. WE WANT TO CONTRIBUTE SOMETHING NEW TO THE GAMING ENVIRONMENT. VIDEO GAMES ARE SO YOUNG THAT MAYBE, JUST MAYBE, THERE ARE THINGS THAT HAVEN'T BEEN DONE YET. WE FUCKING HATE POSTMODERNISM AND THIS IS PROBABLY THE ONLY PLACE ITS UNCREATIVE, REMIX-FRIENDLY CLUTCHES CAN BE ESCAPED.

 

2. IS IT FUN?

IT'S CALLED A GAME SO IT BETTER BE FUN. WE MIGHT MAKE A GAME PUNISHING, OR SLOW, BUT IF NOBODY THINKS IT'S FUN THEN HOW IS IT A GAME?

 

3. IS THERE A POINT?

MINDLESS ENTERTAINMENT IS AWESOME BUT IT'S NOT REALLY WHAT WE INTEND TO DELIVER. THERE'S MORE THAN ENOUGH OF THAT TO GO AROUND. OUR GAMES ARE MADE WITH THE INTENTION OF INCITING. INCITING CONVERSATIONS OR INCITING RIOTS, WE'RE NOT SURE YET.

 

4. IS IT ART?

A LOT OF GAMES ARE ART. MANY AREN'T. WE WANT TO BE IN THE FORMER CATEGORY. WE WANT GAMES TO HAVE THE KIND OF MERIT THAT WILL ONE DAY PUT THEM IN A UNIVERSITY MAJOR ALONGSIDE FILM STUDIES AND ENGLISH LITERATURE. VIDEO GAMES ARE IN A MALLEABLE PLACE RIGHT NOW IN OUR CULTURE AND WE WANT TO HELP MAKE IT A PLACE FOR ARTISTS, COMMUNICATORS AND DREAMERS, NOT HYPE-MONGERS, SHAREHOLDERS AND NEW TECH HIGHWAYMEN.
